Quick Definition:
Force Field Analysis is a framework for looking at the factors (forces) that influence a situation, originally proposed by Kurt Lewin. It’s used to identify forces that support a change (driving forces) and forces that oppose it (restraining forces).
How to Use It
To conduct a force field analysis, list the proposed change in the center. On one side, list the driving forces (e.g., increased efficiency, cost savings). On the other side, list the restraining forces (e.g., team resistance, high cost of implementation). Assign a weight to each force based on its strength.
Why Use It?
Force field analysis helps PMs understand the dynamics of change and develop strategies to strengthen the driving forces and weaken the restraining forces, increasing the likelihood of successful change adoption.
