Quick Definition:
Velocity is a measure of the amount of work a team can complete in a single sprint. A Burn-down Chart is a visual representation of the work remaining in a sprint or project over time.
Using Velocity
Velocity is used for long-term planning. By knowing the team’s average velocity, the Product Owner can forecast how many sprints it will take to complete the entire product backlog.
Using Burn-down Charts
Burn-down charts are used for short-term tracking. They show whether the team is on track to complete all the work in the current sprint. A “perfect” burn-down chart shows a steady decrease in work remaining until it reaches zero at the end of the sprint.
